Tracy’s work:

I cannot say enough good things about Tracy Waugh. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the haircuts she gives me. Basically, I am barraged, just inundated, with enthusiastic compliments from friends, acquaintances and even strangers every time she cuts my hair. Tracy is super adept at what she does, gifted, I’d say. And even without the mahhhvelous end product (the gorgeous hair, folks!!!!), just sitting in her chair and in her playful, happy presence is a pleasure. Every single one of the many folks I’ve sent to Tracy has been very pleased too. I am not exaggerating. And I AM a picky bitch when it comes to my hair so you can trust this multiple thumbs up, all stars out, up and running rave. Okay, time to book an appointment…

Sole came highly recommended from all of my coworkers, so i thought i would give it a try since I am new to the bay area.
the salon is beautiful and all the the people at the front desk were awesome.
My stylist was tracy, and she was AMAZING. i havent had a cut in 8 months, and i have been cutting my own bangs, so my hair was pretty tragic. she seriously worked some magic because i love my cut. she totally got what i wanted and was super quick too! i also received an amazing scalp and shoulder massage. i am so happy with my experience and made an appointment to see her again in 8 weeks.
go see tracy!!

I wrote my first review here almost two years ago after seeing Tracy for a year. Now it’s three years of regular appointments at this salon and they feel like family. The quality of my hair is completely changed through using the Aveda products for this many years. I had a great cut and color in France last year and felt unfaithful coming back home to Tracy and yet she was gracious and supportive of me trying other salons while traveling — and then somehow she managed to improve on the hair design every single appointment we have had since. In January I had a facial with Carmen — that was a real treat too. The ambiance of the room, the foot massage to start and the Green Science product line that I’ve used since has truly improved the quality of my skin.

Another great cut, I love it Tracy!!!
My hair looks good straight or super wavy. It’s work appropriate, yet sexy, no effort or styling needed!!!

Great things about Sole salon:
1. The new location is not in my neighborhood (like the old location used to be), but gives me the opportunity to check out H&M and Old Navy for anything I can’t live without when I’m finished with my hair. I like the environment at the new location a lot better than the old one too – it’s much more hip, much less 80’s. Fun bright colors, good music, and usually a lot of laughter.
2. The 2nd time I visited Sole salon, half the people in there greeted me by name…. making me feel like a rock star.
3. Aveda products. Love that tea.
4. Tracy. She spends quite a bit of time figuring out each client’s hair (mine is crazy curly, cowlicky, wavy, and weird) and makes fabulous suggestions. She listens to my needs (wash and go) and always makes me look like a million bucks. And she gives an AMAZING strong head/neck massage. I’d go see her just for that. She’s super sweet, fun to talk to, and crazy talented

I have been a customer of Sole for a few years now and have always gotten excellent color and cuts. My primary stylist is Tracy and she is awesome. She has always given me fun haircuts and great color jobs. She and everyone else who works there are very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this salon.

am soooo happy! I have never ever ended a haircut feeling happy right away. And the best thing is… I know it’ll look great tomorrow morning, too, since she didn’t use lots of goop in my hair. She didn’t evangelize any product, she was just down to earth & friendly and gave me a great haircut.
Oh, and the scalp massage! Yay! (Tracy, if you read this: I hope my moaning didn’t make you uncomfortable. To my boyfriend, if you read this: I swear it was just a scalp massage.)
Make sure to hit an ATM (wells fargo is nearby) for tip cash (they don’t do credit for the tips), and show up a little early to find a 2 hour spot on one of the not-College streets. The parking Nazis are out in full force. I bet their Emeryville location will be easier for parking.

I got my hair cut here a couple of weeks ago by Tracy and although the first week after wasn’t great (my hair freaked out a bit!), it has since settled down into something cute. I even got one of the nicest compliments while out the other night from a complete stranger – and that never happens. This is the 5th salon I’ve been to since moving to the bay area 2 years ago and I think this is it. Not only was the cut affordable, but she took a lot of time to listen and try to understand what it was that I wanted. I have really thick curly/wavy hair that does what it wants, but she was able to cut it in a way that really works for my texture. It was a bit shorter than I expected, but like all haircuts, has grown out a bit and now it’s great.

Thank you, Tracy and Sole Salon, for helping me get over the sorrow of losing my last stylist to a teaching job!!! (And thank you, Yelp, for delivering me to their door.) It’s tough for a gal to find a salon she can really commit to, but I knew within minutes that I had found my match.
What’s to love?
:: Genuinely friendly folks who clearly love what they do
:: Hello, SCALP MASSAGE!
:: Aveda
:: The compliments you’ll receive when sporting your awesome new ‘do
:: Attentive service and amazing talent, all housed in a sunny & upbeat space (I’m confident their new location will be just as dazzling)
This place rocks!!!

If you’re a dude who doesn’t feel like hitting Supercuts to get sheared like a hedge and are willing to drop a few extra dollars then this place is where you wanna go. Tracy did an amazing job and it was probably one of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. My hair grows really fast and when it’s a good haircut I can go a little longer without getting it cut so the extra money pays for itself…sorta. The only downside is that I can only go Saturdays and you have to book waaay in advance which to me is outrageous for a haircut, but hey, it looked good.

I have been going to Sole for over a couple of years and have to say that it is by far one of the BEST places to get your hair done AND your brows waxed in the area.!
After many a bad hair related accidents with other so-called “great” salons (ie Panache and sone other pretentious place I can’t recall at the moment, but it’s a good thing I have an edit option) I was recommened to Sole by my roomie and when she walked in, looking so fine, I decided I needed to up my vavoom value and strolled in the next week….. My first stylist was fabulous, but alas he is leaving…however, I have had the pleasure of having been cut and styled by Tracy who is amazing! Everytime without fail, I walk in and tell her what I am looking for, and also entrust my head in her hands. Now, that is a lot to say about a person because would you trust your hair in even your best friend’s hands?!?!? My point EXACTLY.
And she never ever disappoints. She is funny and artsy and knows what she is doing. Plus, she managed to take my not so subtle crooked and mismatched eyebrows and give them some life and room to grow. The whole waxing experience didn’t leave me whimpering in pain or cursing the fact that I needed to be waxed, and I can safely say that I walk out of Sole feeling like a sex goddess every time.
So go. Be worked on. Be envied.

I think I’m a little bit of a control freak so it’s hard for me to relax when someone is coming at my hair with a pair of scissors (or color brush) and a “trust me, I know what I’m doing” attitude. I’ve let my guard down before and been burned… bad. Looking for a new stylist, I randomly walked into Sole Salon and asked about their services. Even though this was years ago, I still remember that Guy and Nathalie were at the front desk trying to help me decide which stylist I should try. Did I want a junior? A new talent? An apprentice? I thought, “I don’t know, I just don’t want to leave the appointment in tears or with orange highlights.” That’s when Guy (probably intuiting that I’m a touch dramatic) suggested Tracy Waugh.
What can I say about Tracy… as a stylist she really works hard to give me what I want and never pushes me to “try something new” which, consequently, makes me feel like trying something new. One of Tracy’s particular (and semi-freaky) talents is her ability to take a picture that I’ve walked in with and style my hair almost identically (both cut and color) to it. Hands down though, my absolute favorite part is the in-bowl head and neck massage. Tracy’s magic fingers have left me wondering if I can book an appointment just for an hour-long shampoo. (Turns out, I can’t.)
The one thing that I thought would eventually irritate me over time is Tracy’s relentlessly upbeat attitude and seeming boundless energy. But on the contrary, her peppiness is so genuine that it’s infectious. I’ve walked in to my appointments with stooped shoulders and a bad attitude only to find myself relaxing and laughing within minutes of sitting in Tracy’s chair.
I love the friendly and welcoming vibe at Sole Salon, and I have to admit that I like to schedule my appointments with Tracy for days when Guy, Stephanie and Nathalie are there too. (What can I say, I’m greedy.) Anyway, keep doing what you’re doing and I’ll keep coming back with my Penelope Cruz photo clipping.
